Happy Sunday

Still picking few June strawberries.  I have everbearing ripening also. I try to get them before the squirrels get them.  I have the berries covered but they try, and I am not letting them win.  Glad the owls are back out and I hear them calling in the evening.  I think they are good at keeping prey away from my vegetables and berries.

I made jam or preserves

The white berries in here are Pine berries.

Large June berries here

Natural color with less sugar than called for, I always put in an apple slice or two to simmer with the strawberries because apples contain pectin.  They help thicken and cook down to where you don't know they are in there.
Certain apples contain more pectin than others like Granny Smith, Red delicious and Gala are a few. I didn't use the skin or core which is where most is found.
I just added a few slices
Some lemon juice added to the strawberries.
Tastes so much better than store bought.

Perfect thickness

I sliced some for drying

They taste tart and have a strong strawberry flavor.  I use in baking. Some ground for cakes and frostings.

Mothers day and husbands birthday fell on same day
I got roses from children
They were large enough amount that I made an extra vase for den.

I separated them

We drove out to the restaurant called The Ice House in Gordonsville Va.
very good food
Pretty scenery along the way

From the table I was sitting, the view out the window of the structures reminded of a couple I saw while visiting in Maine.  I felt like I was in New England for a moment.  I love the old architecture.

Steve had chicken

I had flounder

Chantilly cake with strawberries and blueberries from Publix was delicious!  The cakes I have noticed are just a little smaller it seems.

A lovely day for both of us

Saturday

Steve's birthday was Saturday.  We had dinner and of course cake and ice cream.  The children loved showing off their cards they made Opa.  So cute were they and they both went into detail on how they made them.
this one was Adalyns

Adalyn on the right and Genevieve on the left.  Miranda lighting candles.

Genevieve's card. She always draws a happy sun on hers.

It was a rainy day but I still got to pick a few roses and this tea rose moved here with me from our other house in 2007.  Still is doing fine.  I have to really give it a good cutting to the ground at times.  Still blooms pretty.

There were two of them

Yes, this little gal has taken up space in the chair in the living room with the girls.
Love those big eyes.

Happy Birthday

Steve's birthday today.   Grands were here and we all ate then had some birthday cake which was an Oreo ice cream cake.
Some pics

My cell phone does not take great pics or rather I am not still enough while taking them.  Genevieve and Adalyn were admiring the silver doggy pen they picked out for him and a book.

Steve loves yard toys to place around the yard.   This one is a penguin Annette sent him.  Kids love finding these statues in various places.
A card the children made.  Genevieve and Adalyn drew on it.  Adalyn drew the bird that was in the corner and Genevieve loves trees and flowers.

A book that Miranda got for him called  - Tom Clancy - Power and Empire by Marc Cameron.  Looks like a very good read.

Summer shirts, air compressor and

Steve is enjoying his cake

It's a wonder it didn't melt with the candles flaming

yum
Happy Birthday Steve
