Farm veggies

I took a little trip not too far about 4 1/2 hours not including stops to my daughters house in Ballard W.Va...
She had the veggies this year and fruit.   I guess it was just a good year.  I helped her prepare some for her to put into the pressure canner.  I enjoyed shelling and snapping beans.
Here are a few delicious looking pictures here.   I say that because I ate a little of everything pictured.
First off I must show the apples that are left after picking on the tree.
They are combination red delicious and gala.
The house was built in early 1940's.    Annette counted the rings on a limb that cracked from weight and had to be sawed off  of 75 rings. So I guess 75 years old.    The tree trunk itself I barely get my arms around.   Gorgeous tree.

these needed quite a bit of stringing but we got it.  She is picking them smaller and next year not this type.

Russ likes the beans - he's our traveling companion.  Adalyn and Genevieve gave him to opa for his birthday and he goes on trips with us.

Strawberry table

 A picture of the berry  table my daughter Annette grows her strawberries in.   I want one like this.     It looks like it's made  for potting plants with the table on each side - but she grows berries in it.
It would be great for me as it would take care of voles and moles tearing up the plants and I could pick them much easier.  She just amends the soil and gets a good little crop out of it.   Will have to try it.  I bet even having a second smaller box on top with berries hanging down on the sides would work too.

Children home and tomatoes

Previous long weekend visit to see daughter and family.   Got to check out her high tunnel green house and the beautiful tomatoes that were still on the very tall vines.  Most  vines were at least 10 feet .   There were some pretty peppers also.
She sold quite a bit of veggies this summer and looks like she will have tomatoes right up to December.

To begin with there is some pretty nature and farms on the way to our childrens home.   Gorgeous pastoral views.

In the evening we arrived, we picked some tomatoes from the green house

She is going to plant now some kale and other winter crops

She got the little tractor with a very old wagon that was left at the house.   They painted the wooden wagon red and that is what we carted the tomatoes to the house on

Next morning apples were picked from those tall trees. Those trees have been there for quite a long time.

Last but not least we made some ebelskivers , I didn't have package mix,   so I mixed about a cup of self rising flour with 5 tablespoons butter and mixed until it resembled coarse crumbs-1/4 cup sugar- 1egg- I added enough half and half to make thick but easy enough to spoon into pan.

I filled half in pan, added a teaspoon of homemade crab apple jelly that Annette made and then added more mixture, I turned when browned on bottom and cooked other side,  sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.  Yummmm

Next time I will have to record my recipe as I make it.
