The steps look pretty good actually and the same with the ones going upstairs. I am not sure what I want to do at this point. He removed the staples and the strip that held the carpet in place. Sanded where they were pulled from and it looks good.
I am thinking about a runner but don't know if I want the stair bar or stair clips like were used in the old Victorian days. They seem to be making a comeback and I like them. A link Here of what they look like. Just not sure if the carpet would sag in the middle. ???? I just don't want a lot of nails or tacks back in the stairs. Also thinking of painting the part of step that faces - white and leave
the tread natural oak
Now to remove the carpet going up. Looks better already.
Not sure what color runner I want either.
Got to make a choice on painting a contrasting white on the facing board.
Meanwhile outside today was another hot one. Thought I would be painting more on the playhouse after doc appt. but way too hot for that.

This is the time of the year to do these repairs or refresh things around. We live in a parsonage so we are spared of a lot of these things. It is however so nice to have things nice and fresh. It will look great when you're all done. Don't forget to share a photo. Have a great weekend!
Things definitely need refreshing around here. Nice to get the old carpet off.

Betsy, your stairs are in very nice shape. I'd be tempted to leave them as they are. I'm sure a runner with a bar would look nice as well if you don't want them bare.
You are right it is so hot and humid. Our grandson cut the grass this morning before 9 am and I'm so glad as it was hot enough then. Love the view from your den seeing your pretty window box.
Stay cool, my friend.
Dearest Betsy,
No hair on my head would want to cover up such perfect stairs!
We have solid oak and I'm forever grateful for that decision.
Making the risers white you would regret as everyone will constantly tip with their shoes against the white and stain it...
Good luck on deciding what to do!
Hugs,
Mariette
Thank you Mariette. We just let Karl fill in, sand and then put a finish. It's a little noisier without carpet but we are going to leave as is right now. You feel the same way we came to feel and that is we didn't have the kick board painted because of kick marks.

Betsy,
The stairs look really nice. I thought of just having wood stairs but I am afraid that they would be to slippery and I would fall and kill myself...Lord knows that I have fallen down our carpeted stairs many times in the last 40 years that we have been here...With one knee replacement and the need for another one, you do have to think of safety first...
Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Clever and the noise is minimal dearest Betsy, if you're NOT wearing wooden clogs...💛
Need to be more sensible when using steps and not wear heels or slippery socks. I tell everyone USE THE HANDRAIL!
Happy Sunday
Betsy
We have a handrail on both sides. Pieter added a 2nd one before Mom & Dad came to stay with us for 6 weeks end of 2005. Mom just had gotten her knee replacement. It served me well when I had my closed double pelvic bone fracture last year. Those house socks with special sole are perfect too. Enjoy your Sunday as wel Betsy!

Betsy, there is always so much to do around the house. Your stairs look in good shape and seem they will be easier to take care of without the carpet. A pretty runner would look nice..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
