We had lunch in town of Ashland Va. last Wednesday at the Caboose Market and Cafe

I like how the side of the building is painted like train cars

When we left, it was raining pretty good.

Steve's lunch, hot dogs made in Richmond Va. with meat from a local farm

 

I had Pimento spread and chicken salad with crackers 

Meats are local 

we like that

It was served on a slate platter

very good

My cappuccino 

Homemade soup of cabbage, carrots in a broth with sausage

I forget the name, but it was a German type of soup

Cyanotype prints for sale hanging on the wall

I have some of this paper I have never used and seeing how pretty these

are made me get it out, but will have to wait for some sunshine.

Secretariat

Today started off rainy and dreary but turned into a warm and sunny, windy day. 

We watched the unveiling of Secretariat in our town of Ashland Va.    Born in Caroline County VA at Meadow Farm, Horseracing's 1973 Triple Crown Winner

You can type in Ashland Va. and unveiling, Secretariat and it should bring up the events.

Yes, we ponied up some.  I want to see Secretariat come back and take his place in Ashland Va on the campus of Randolph Macon University

We did a little hometown shopping and then lunch at Trackside restaurant.

I like how these horses are painted on wood 

Lunch 

Mine was a Greek salad with tzatziki sauce.

Steve had the Teriyaki bowl.

It was good but I like the French dip sandwich the best.

Train Mural

A very large mural of a train in our train town of Ashland, Va.
I didn't get to good of a shot like I wanted with the cars parked in front of it today.
Not finished completely yet,  the building is very long.   Hope to get a shot of it sometime when it's not a workday.

An early morning walk in town for some exercise took me by some unique bike decorating as Richmond Va. is  host to the upcoming UCI road world cycling championships.

front yard gardens and whimsy

Some front yard gardens decorated nicely with some cute yard ornaments in the town of Ashland.
This one has a sweet penguin,  just the penguin and nothing else to take away from it,  made me want to take a closer look.

The nice lady who lived here showed Genevieve what was hidden in the yellow flowers

Genevieve liked it so much here - she wanted to go in.

The little clock is so sweet ,  table set for dinner - just adorable

nice home for sale,   cement fruit urns on either side of the walk

Now - he is just plain cute

a local green store here in Ashland  pictures.

I purchased one of these hanging pots from here earlier and have one hanging on my fence gate with volunteer petunias in it.

Above sculpture of fish definitely caught my eye,  so neat.
Re bar bent into shape of fish with saw in center, shears, railroad spike, lawnmower blade for fin, etc.
