Secretariat

Today started off rainy and dreary but turned into a warm and sunny, windy day.

We watched the unveiling of Secretariat in our town of Ashland Va.    Born in Caroline County VA at Meadow Farm, Horseracing's 1973 Triple Crown Winner

You can type in Ashland Va. and unveiling, Secretariat and it should bring up the events.

Yes, we ponied up some.  I want to see Secretariat come back and take his place in Ashland Va on the campus of Randolph Macon University

We did a little hometown shopping and then lunch at Trackside restaurant.

I like how these horses are painted on wood

Lunch

Mine was a Greek salad with tzatziki sauce.

Steve had the Teriyaki bowl.
It was good but I like the French dip sandwich the best.

Dearest Betsy,
That is quite a stunning Secretariat replica! Already 50 years ago, quite a memorable day.
Was your 17th viewer of the video.
Hugs,
Mariette

Hi Betsy,

I love, love this statue!! It's one of the prettiest I've seen. I like that it's not just one solid color all over. My parents were lucky to visit Churchill Downs while visiting Lexington, KY, many years ago. They told me all about seeing the statue of Secretariat there and I think they probably saw his stall, as well. I've seen old footage of that incredible race, and I don't think there will ever be another like it. It's really neat to see Moe -- he's a handsome chestnut just like his great-great-great-grandfather.

Thanks for sharing with us and have a wonderful day.

Hugs,

Denise at Forest Manor

Very cool! A blogging friend of mine just about a horse who is the great, great, great grandson of Secretariat. I thought that was very cool, especially since my dad used to love going to the track, so I knew that horse name well!

Thank you Mariette for watching my video. It is so hard to believe it was 50 years ago! I am not getting a reminder in my mail that I have comments waiting to be acknowledged. I am going to have to check my settings again! Hugs, Betsy

Yes, it was so nice to see Moe and he seems to be very spoiled as he should be with all the attention he gets. Beauty for sure. I am looking forward to the statue coming back to Ashland and taking it's place on Randolph Macon campus. I am the same feeling as you that there will not be another race like it. So exciting. Hugs Betsy
