Remembering all who gave their lives for us this Memorial Day and everyday!
Walking the yard earlier this morning, I see where my black holly hock flowered. It was in bud yesterday, but actually fully opened on this Memorial Day! The flower is black as stated on the plant when I received it. I guess it will get a lighter shade as days go by and turn a purplish color.
Your black hollyhock is stunning, Betsy! It was a beautiful Memorial Day remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Happy June days ahead for you and yours!

ReplyDeleteThe first one I purchased a few years ago died. This one lived and it is so unusual looking. I need to move it now because I hastily planted it under the dog wood tree. Not a good place.

Yes Mariette, I don't understand the "Happy Memorial Day" greetings. Daddy used to take us when young to the memorials around the town to fallen military. We only had cookouts and get togethers some July 4th during the years. I have read your post from 2011. Like you stated FREEDOM HAS IT'S PRICE. Always having to remind the young ones here of that.
DeleteI am sure you must still be tired after that long drive. We need to take a vacation here for ourselves and haven't done so in a while. Would like to travel to Louisiana to do some family research and see the garden district. Maybe in the fall we can do that. Not crazy about Louisiana but a little research and then somewhere else maybe. Hugs, Betsy

DeleteBetsy, I planted a black one a few years ago and it did bloom once but then died. It is a very stunning and beautiful flower but it doesn't outdo the familiar pink ones for me. We can never forget those who gave us our freedoms and continue to do so..Hope you had a wonderful weekend..xxoJudy
