Get away for 3 days

We took the grand girls with us for three nights and four days to Northern Neck of Va.
First two nights in Kilmarnock and visiting the nearby areas to see if we may like it more to come back to.
It was nice and we enjoyed our time but two nights here were enough.

White Stone Beach
A very hot day and the sand burned the feet but the girls pressed on and found treasures

Outside eatery in town

Lobby of hotel.  I took this picture because I like the retro looking mirror

We had dinner one evening at the Sandpiper restaurant in White Stone

Off to Colonial Beach for a stop on the way home and some thrift shop stops.
First a stop at a bakery along the way I believe it was Montross.
Double lemon, raspberry, banana and maple bacon.

Small but well appointed baths

Walk to beach is easy from the River View Inn.  A fine redecorated Hotel from the 50's I believe

I took this because I do like the gazebo.  B and B.

North End

A little play with the picture

This lot here is for sale.  Not looking forward to seeing what will happen to it.  Probably a hi rise hotel of sorts or condo to block views of bldgs. that have been here for ages.  Every thing changes.

soon will be gone I guess.  Nice little vintage motel people loved.  Clean and friendly owners.

In the town.  These are grape vines growing on the fence.

  1. Dearest Betsy,
Wow, you gifted your two grands again with some precious time together for fondest memories to come!
It is heartbreaking to see the tearing down of old buildings and the little people never manage to stand up to the power of the few!
Happy that the weather was good.
We too spent 3 nights near Hilton Head, some swimming and relaxing, much needed after all the work and stress.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

Have just begun with the posting of some Review Quotes that I listed with our new book publishing... Proud of my Pieter and grateful that he is still alive to read and see the fruits of his labour and dedication. We both love the books, especially the hardcover is so well done. Color printing is excellent on heavy paper. Not cheap but we say here in the US: you get what you pay for...

    1. Thank you. Three nights sound wonderful near Hilton Head. Good you were able to relax and enjoy time away.
Not cheap like you say as you have used the best materials available for such an important work to be enjoyed generations to come.

  2. I'm so glad you and the grands could have a getaway, Betsy. You always have such fun with them! The photo of them in the surf is great. You must frame it for them. How is it that the grands grow so quickly? Lovely times and more great memories stored for you and them.

  4. Dear Betsy, That little vintage hotel for sale almost made me teary. We loved a little similar motel/inn in North Myrtle Beach. They tore it down and built a huge highrise there... SAD!

Looks like a great trip to the beach. We tend to go to the mountains in the summer and to the beach when it cooler... I don't like being in the heat of summer.

Your GrandGirls are just so adorable. I know they had a great time with you.

    Have an awesome week.
    Hugs,
    Betsy
