Anniversary get away

We celebrated  our Anniversary on the 5th and decided to spend it a few days in Warm Springs of Va. area.
Inn at Gristmill Square is where we stayed and had dinner at the Water Wheel Restaurant there.
The rain was  off and on for two days but we had no problem with it.
It was cozy in the room and we took drives to surrounding areas.

Rustic Charm and a very clean with wonderful bed linens and pillow.  Nice to have the fireplace to make it all cozy and having a warm fire going while reading in bed.

We had a cheese tray called ahead waiting in the room.  Husbands idea.
The flat looking cheese on the left that looks like flames running through it, well it was HOT. Did not like this one and a surprise bite of it washing with water didn't help.

This fireplace mantle is gorgeous and taken from civil war era fort Dinwiddie.
Mornings started with a great breakfast brought to our room with hot food hot and cold food kept cold.
This pastry had cheese and another morning was ham .  There are items for people with  restricted diets.

Reading and watching a fire is something we both enjoyed, ahh relaxing.

Next evening dinner at the Water wheel restaurant for our Anniversary dinner
We have stayed around home in the past several Anniversaries but decided to get away this time and have a nice evening out.

I like the plates with waterwheel as chargers taken up when seated.

Starters
Home made French onion soup.  Husband had smoked Alleghany Mountain Trout with horseradish cream.

Dinner
Steve had  Prime Rib with a sauce not sure what type.

I had the Pork Loin, celeriac puree and  trumpet mushrooms

I almost forgot our salads - Caesar for husband
Spinach for me with oyster mushrooms, pickled
red onions and egg, vinaigrette. You can see it must have been pretty tasty.

Rosemary Bread with Garfunkel butter which is  parsley sage rosemary and thyme, named for the Scarborough fair song.  Something a lot of other people knew, but obviously not me.

A walk in the rain with umbrella and then back to the room where we started a fire and stayed warm.

A short clip

  2. Happy Belated Anniversary, Betsy!! This looks like a very nice getaway. Love the room w/fireplace and the meal looks delicious! Those kind of places are so much more pleasant to stay at than chain motels. Hal and I are thinking about going to Savannah, GA, for a few days in March. We'll see if we can get away.

Thanks for sharing and have a great week.

    Hugs,

    1. Yes it was yummy and we are wearing it now. Good thing we do not eat like this often. The meat was lean and good.
