sweets

Sweets for the sweets.

Sunday was the first time I saw the children in two weeks with the flu I had.  So I fixed dinner and they fixed dessert with sponge cups.  Genevieve and Adalyn mixed cream cheese with heavy whipping cream, vanilla and little sugar.
Spooned into their dessert cups and the strawberries on top, lots of small ones and whipping cream on top.  We only have this once in a while.  Mostly the girls like the strawberries plain.
Yep she likes the beater

Adalyn and her turn

last spoonful went in the mouth

Today they both went for teeth cleaning.. Genevieve had several baby teeth that were in her mouth good and wouldn't come out to let the others come correctly, so with laughing gas and a few numbing needles - they were pulled to let the permanents come in.  Very stressful for G.V.

Adalyn had a very small hidden cavity in here molar that she will not lose til she is around 12.  Well now work has to be done on that.

No more sugar for a while.  They brush regularly, floss and rinse but still anyway, it happens.
Glad they had a very good time Sunday.

  1. Dearest Betsy,
Sugar is hidden in so many products that we never know!
When I learned in 2007 that I had diabetes type 2, I refused to take any medication but instead cut the sugar out of my diet.
That meant we had to study labels at the store and soon enough we learned that sugar is everywhere!
No wonder it is called the new crack. But there are ways around it and even we can bake while using the low glycemic index products instead of plain sugar. Like Agave Nectar and Coconut Palm Sugar, that is a lot healthier and even I have been able to consume that and for all these years my blood sugar level has been perfect.
But I must say that I mainly use my European recipes and it is quite shocking HOW much more sugar is being listed in American recipes! Guess it can be 'prescribed' by the sugar industry to teach kids at a young age how to acquire a taste for real sweets.
Never drank soda either, only water and no alcohol, that is the highest sugar content of all!
But no doubt you enjoyed having your grand girls over after two weeks.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Hello Mariette, I do like the Palm sugar also but I have to be careful with it because it has as many calories as sugar. Love to eat fresh coconut always and fresh pineapple. I don't drink much soda either, once in a while. My Mom is 97 and all of her test are always normal as far as sugar etc.. She said she enjoyed when little when the sugar cane was harvested and boiling down and tasting it in the barrels as molasses. She also has had a dessert every day forever after dinner. Fruit only of apple, orange or banana. She has all of her teeth except one that was pulled 40 years ago and thats because she didn't want to mess with fillings. She made good homemade wine also but very little consumed and not on daily basis.
Moderation is what I was always told by her and that is what I am trying to stick too.
Good to hear that you have kept your sugar with in normal levels. I must do the same. Mine a little on high side.

  3. Such seeet little helpers. And of course, licking the beaters is one of the best parts of making whipped cream!

  4. So glad you were able to have the grands over for a meal, Betsy. Those shortcakes look divine. I'm like them, I like to lick beaters and spoons myself! Lol Glad the girls have the dental issues in the past. Take care.

  5. What fun to see them both and enjoy making such a wonderful desert desert together. Shame about the dental issues but a little treat now and again doesn't hurt.

  6. Dental work is such a stress for kids and also adults. I hate the dentist chair. It must be great to spend such a lovely time with sweet grandkids. Our little grandbaby is too little to cook with me but someday she will be old enough. Looks like your grandchildren had a wonderful time with grandma!

  8. Children and dentist don't always go well together. Adults and dentist don't always go well together!!! I am about 6 months past due on my cleaning but in my defense I have been sort of tied up with stuff....Licking the beaters. The second pics is adorable.
