Cookie and Star

Addy and Genevieves sweet doggies.    Cookie the Sheepadoodle and Star the Australian shepherd look out for each other.  Cookie can open doors and come and go outside as she pleases.  She can open the round door knobs too.  She hears her buddy outside.

Never too hungry or busy to check on Star and Star wants in.

Summer shots

Mostly pictorial today.  Summer hot as it's expected to be this time of year.  Hopefully more rain will come.

View above from garage with some huge squash plants and tomatoes, some cucumbers.

Plenty of lavender dried

Corner of patio with a pretty dahlia in such a small pot that I should have put in the ground but didn't.

A drive to Williamsburg Va. a few week ends ago to shop and just look around with a stop at Cracker Barrel.  We ordered the Pot Roast supper.  Delicious!
Served piping hot in this little Dutch oven.
Visiting Ruckersville Va.  A nice little place with very friendly people.  We had lunch at a little diner and snapped this picture of this painted building while there.
Playhouse air conditioner so the girls can be cooler in here.  It gets beastly hot. This is much better.
A little insulation would help along with finishing the walls but not at this time.  I kinda like the look of the wood supports.  Now to put the vinyl on the floor.  I have to take everything out and glue it down.  No problem

After a much needed rain yesterday, today is sunshiny and will be warm of course, it's summer.

Nothing better than strawberries and blueberries for me.

Hard to believe we will be in July soon.   Seems like just yesterday I was just saying that I would welcome the warm Spring days and Summer.  Well Summer is definitely here and moving fast.  I think time goes by faster the older I get.

Potted Cosmos looks so pretty growing in the pots, but I never really thought they would get this big as I have not grown them before.  Next year less in the pots, but they are doing well with watering through the day. I just keep a watering can close and filled to give a drink as I walk by.

I have several different colors growing.

From seeds I have striped marigolds.  I think I like this type of marigold the best.

Squash flowers are beautiful too.

Lavender doing so well and I have picked some for drying and sachets.  I removed little flowers for garnishing some lemon lavender cookies and maybe some muffins later to be made.  I have some dried in little glass containers for use later.
Potted pink hollyhock at garage.
The Black flower hollyhock is growing straight up the dog wood tree.  It's a big one.

Herons Pirouette begonia.  Comes back bigger and thicker every year. I keep it pulled as it gets thick in this area with it.  Very easy to control, so no problem

Rosemary cutting I rooted last summer in pot.  I keep  it cut to shape

Before the rain at late evening.

Til next time....~bh

Happy Sunday

Earlier with coffee while enjoying birdsong and sunshine.   Cukes growing so well in this pot.  It wasn't this large yesterday.

Grand daughter helped find and pull some rocks deeply embedded in the dirt in the far back yard so they could be put around lamp post with some flowers she planted.

Good Day to All!

May 31 2021

Remembering all who gave their lives for us this Memorial Day and everyday!

Walking the yard earlier this morning, I see where my black holly hock flowered. It was in bud yesterday, but actually fully opened on this Memorial Day!  The flower is black as stated on the plant when I received it.  I guess it will get a lighter shade as days go by and turn a purplish color.

Wednesday stuff

Wow, been a while, been busy.  Hope to finish up planting a few things  today and that will be it.  The weather the past few weeks has either been cold or hot.  Looks like now it will stay pretty warm to finish planting.   I have my water jugs lined up in the backyard to be filled by husband to give a water to potted plants in the morning.  I know when they are filled when he turns them in the opposite direction.  😃

Children coming to do their school work.  Some tree men coming to give estimate on taking out and trimming more trees.  One drawback about moving to an older neighborhood like we did 14 years ago is that previous owners planted trees that should be in the forest.  They get huge over time and need to be taken out.
Not enough sunlight to get to the yard.

These two hollyhocks, picture taken last year  have grown so much.  Looking forward to blooms this year as the first year it's just leaves.

I made a big mistake and planted under the dogwood that needs some trimming just to have a place quick to put it and now wished I hadn't.  It is a monster.  Supposed to be a black color.  Will see when it blooms how they will look.  I sprayed with neem oil for fungus on the leaves, but that really doesn't bother me as I pull off the really bad ones and put in trash to keep away from any other leaves. Since pulling them out, the plant looks better and healthier
The one in pot below which is a pastel color pink I believe will be put in ground after the blooms are finished this year.  Lined up at garage with tomato, pepper and a squash plant that I grew from seeds.  One pot is a Dahlia next to hollyhock.

The Parisian Gherkin has the prettiest yellow flowers.
So far so good with the bells of Ireland and Cosmos from seed

Weeding to be done again, and again here

My tea rose which has traveled with me from two homes.

putting together hanging pots with some plants I purchased from local nursery

The bottom broke off of one these pots so I gorilla glued them together.

Back out to plant.

Happy Wednesday to all
