Barboursville

Side trip to Barboursville Va. to see the ruins and vineyards.   Beautiful pastoral views.  Designed by Thomas Jefferson for his friend James Barbour.  Governor of Va..   Built 1814 to 1822.  Burned Christmas day 1884.  Orange county Va.

Octagonal rooms and those columns are so much Thomas Jefferson.

Jefferson provided workmen from his Monticello  home to build this mansion.

Impressive boxwood gardens with a few benches for sitting a spell to ponder as I did.

A short video clip

Not sure how to make the video frame pause long enough to read descriptions.  Hit pause to read.

I always wanted to see Monticello. I went back to VA to meet my son’s ship from a long deployment and I wanted to go there and he had other plans. One day I’ll get back there I hope. There is so much to see and do on the east coast…that we don’t have here.

Betsy,
I was there on a trip in high school.....I remember it being impressive!! Thanks so much for stopping by!! Yes, Joe needs to work part time because he has no idea what to do with himself at home...I have lists of things to do daily and weekly and he can not think of one thing to do!! I am very happy he got this job....It will give me some much needed alone time!!
Hugs,
Deb

Dearest Betsy,
Got to be your 18th viewer of the video.
Such a shame that they never rebuilt this historic home... Would be so worthwhile for having.
Indeed a dark and rainy day.
Hugs,
Mariette

Hi Mariette, I wonder why they didn't rebuild it myself. All brick three layers thick. It's almost eerie walking to the mansion ruins under thunder and dark skies. Thank you for visiting, hugs Betsy

Betsy, that looks like a beautiful and interesting place to visit. You certainly have a lot of history in your part of the country. I love the video, not only seeing the beautiful buildings but hearing the crickets and the birds too..Happy Monday..xxoJudy
