Remembering all who gave their lives for us this Memorial Day and everyday!

Walking the yard earlier this morning, I see where my black holly hock flowered. It was in bud yesterday, but actually fully opened on this Memorial Day!  The flower is black as stated on the plant when I received it.  I guess it will get a lighter shade as days go by and turn a purplish color.

Wednesday stuff

Wow, been a while, been busy.  Hope to finish up planting a few things  today and that will be it.  The weather the past few weeks has either been cold or hot.  Looks like now it will stay pretty warm to finish planting.   I have my water jugs lined up in the backyard to be filled by husband to give a water to potted plants in the morning.  I know when they are filled when he turns them in the opposite direction.  😃

Children coming to do their school work.  Some tree men coming to give estimate on taking out and trimming more trees.  One drawback about moving to an older neighborhood like we did 14 years ago is that previous owners planted trees that should be in the forest.  They get huge over time and need to be taken out.
Not enough sunlight to get to the yard.

These two hollyhocks, picture taken last year  have grown so much.  Looking forward to blooms this year as the first year it's just leaves.

I made a big mistake and planted under the dogwood that needs some trimming just to have a place quick to put it and now wished I hadn't.  It is a monster.  Supposed to be a black color.  Will see when it blooms how they will look.  I sprayed with neem oil for fungus on the leaves, but that really doesn't bother me as I pull off the really bad ones and put in trash to keep away from any other leaves. Since pulling them out, the plant looks better and healthier
The one in pot below which is a pastel color pink I believe will be put in ground after the blooms are finished this year.  Lined up at garage with tomato, pepper and a squash plant that I grew from seeds.  One pot is a Dahlia next to hollyhock.

The Parisian Gherkin has the prettiest yellow flowers.
So far so good with the bells of Ireland and Cosmos from seed

Weeding to be done again, and again here

My tea rose which has traveled with me from two homes.

putting together hanging pots with some plants I purchased from local nursery

The bottom broke off of one these pots so I gorilla glued them together.

Back out to plant.

Happy Wednesday to all

Happy Mothers Day to All!

I visited my mother yesterday at the nursing home.  She has lost weight.  She still looks good and was chatty with us.  She is doing well and getting around on her own.  We brought her  favorite milk shake which is strawberry and a hamburger.  She didn't eat the burger but started in on the shake.  I try to take her things that have a lot of flavor like sweet and savory.

I asked her to pull down the mask and she did.  I do not like pictures of her with that on her face.  I want to see her and we did.

Today I received a visit and beautiful flower of succulent I guess it's called.  It is so pretty.  Looks like tightly woven roses.  I need to find the name of this. Love my musical card the children gave me.

They know I love to shop at Cracker barrel and I will.

Good day to all!

Everything coming up flowers

Everything has decided to  bloom at once it looks to be .  Had some really warm weather except for today but we did have high in the 80's last week.

I planted the two boxwood that were growing under the dogwood in front yard.  They come up there from the very large ones near the road.  Off shoots I guess they are called.  I pulled bottom leaves off and will leave them here for a long while.

Mock orange and Peonies in the vase at the entrance to kitchen.

Arrangement on the porch also.

This Kale going on the third season.  It's this one plant that is in a planter off the ground that keeps producing.  I just pull off the flowers so it doesn't go to seed.  Enough for a meal for us at a time.

 Time for a close up.

I have been working on this puzzle off and on for a few days.  It is one of the hardest I think I have ever done.  Gonna take a long while for this one.  I have a few others to do also.

This azalea was taken in full bloom last week.  It's fading fast now.

Grand Daddys beard or Fringe tree

I picked a few stalks of fringe along with azalea for table.  This was taken last week also. We have been so busy with house chores inside and out that I am behind on posts.

Little window box in bedroom window downstairs.

Went to yard sales with the grand girls last Saturday and they had such a good time.  They asked me to take them and I did.  I found this pretty little lacey black frame for a dollar.

I could not resist this coffee pot with warmer and it looks to be 1960 era?  Not sure but I do like retro and this looks retro to me.

Well that is it for now, til next time
