Easter Sunday

 Hope all enjoyed a Happy Easter.   The weather couldn't have been more perfect with sunshine and a hearty meal.  

Ham

Mac in cheese

Yams with nuts, brown sugar, marshmallows, cinnamon, nutmeg and some apple juice

Dipping sweet potatoes in boiling water sure helped with peeling. 

We had Italian green beans along with collard greens.  I chopped the collards added some vinegar, few pepper flakes and little water in the pressure cooker for 10 minutes.  

Corn.  A tossed salad with tomatoes, red onions, cukes., deviled eggs and cold macaroni salad

Strawberry short cake - I just purchased the dessert cake for shortcake and mixed softened cream cheese, vanilla and some cool whip together, spooned into cups with chopped strawberries on top and of course the girls love the extra whipped topping to finish off the top.  

Son and his family here.  Opa hid eggs for the girls.  Their parents joined in.   An egg hid from last year was found.  This happens every year.  

Seems like yesterday they were just toddlers looking for eggs.

Wow, where did the time go?

While having dinner, Eggbert that Adalyn made while we colored eggs on good Friday was taken from the fridge in his chair at the dinner table with us.  He was a good egg.  

the Azaleas were so pretty along with the pink and white dogwoods.  One of the dogwoods are going to be taken down at the azaleas because it's just not that pretty anymore.   They have a good run of about 40 years I heard.   

I trimmed a lot on these white azaleas after blooming last year, they are thick with flowers this year.

This was taken on good Friday when it was a little rainy.

I see a little rabbit on the porch railing.

Taken Monday after Easter.  I sat on my patio with a good book and fell asleep in the chair.

Some Easter

 Short post of a little bit of Easter decorating.  Been working in the yard more and not much time for anything else.  Takes me longer to get things done these days it seems.  My body is achy and tired after weed pulling and planting.  

My granddaughter painted a plank that I rounded the top with my saw.   I then purchased a Dollar tree sign and glued on.

The rabbit picture I found on Graphics Fairy.  Printed it on some sticky decal paper then attached to the board at top.   

I sprayed a clear sealer over all of it.

I purchased this egg wreath from Walmart.  It's bright and can be seen from the driveway when I pull in.

I like seeing it so bright and cheery on the drive in.

I added a bow which I don't think it helped much, I think I will take it off. 

Bunny, my granddaughter said I should put eyes on it. 

I like it the way it is.

Secretariat

Today started off rainy and dreary but turned into a warm and sunny, windy day. 

We watched the unveiling of Secretariat in our town of Ashland Va.    Born in Caroline County VA at Meadow Farm, Horseracing's 1973 Triple Crown Winner

You can type in Ashland Va. and unveiling, Secretariat and it should bring up the events.

Yes, we ponied up some.  I want to see Secretariat come back and take his place in Ashland Va on the campus of Randolph Macon University

We did a little hometown shopping and then lunch at Trackside restaurant.

Mine was a Greek salad with tzatziki sauce.

Steve had the Teriyaki bowl.

It was good but I like the French dip sandwich the best.

Pamplin city

One of Virginia's smallest cities incorporated in 1874.  Town of Pamplin city straddles Appomattox County and Prince Edward County line.   

A ghost town at the moment and I say that because I heard from one of the towns people that a couple of the buildings have been purchased and being renovated.  Maybe there will be some nice little eatery and local shopping hopefully in the future brought back. Like I said, hopefully.   It's such a pretty area.  Nice Museum in the train depot. 

Pamplin clay pipe factory employed many townspeople at the time and was known as one of the largest clay pipe factories in the world.    Closed in 1951.
