Happy St Patrick's Day

Some linens my sister sent me a little while back.  I am not going to open them.  I think they are pretty packaged the way they are.

I purchased some glass tear drops with glass beads to put on my newest chandelier in dining room. I just want to change out the metal drops that are on there for a change.

This picture was taken about 6 months ago before my son put it up

I am always changing things around.

Made bunnies with the girls today.  Now they just need button eyes.

I think I am going to make a few for decorations for myself

Out side to check on things and pull some snow and rain water from our water barrel.

I like the idea of hooking up my hose to it to water the plants also.

These box I am training into topiary did very well staying out in the ice and snow this winter.

I pulled these up growing from off shoots of a large bush that is 20 plus years old in our front yard.   More are up and I will pot those also.

  1. Dearest Betsy,
Happy belated St. Patrick's to you!
Nice Irish handkerchiefs you got sent by your sister.
Never have had any chandeliers... Guess that is typical American, not European.
Your baby boxwoods sure can be trimmed any shape, as long as they are young. Later they become leggy and very open as they reach a certain age.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  2. Good Morning Mariette, A very rainy one here. I was curious and looked up Chandelier. Going back to Medieval times, the earliest ones were simple made of wood forming a cross and candles made of animal fat sitting on spikes at the end, mostly used in churches. Then on from there.
I really do like the boxwoods, they were here when we purchased our home. The ones in front were quite leggy without the trimming. Light did not enter the center of shrub. I cut them back to allow for it and now the are filling in the center. Ugly for a while but are recovering. Hope your day is filled with sunshine. Ours will be rainy all day.
    Hugs, Betsy

    1. Dearest Betsy,
Will have to leave in a few minutes and also in heavy rain... for Pieter's doctor's appointment about one hour driving. He's developed suddenly Dupuytren's contracture in both hands!
My entire family, nobody ever had a chandelier, nor any friends. Yes, Churches and palaces they had them hung.
      Hugs,
      Mariette

    2. Wishing you and Pieter a safe journey and good news for Pieter from his doctor. I had never heard of this and had to look it up.
We never had chandeliers either. One was here with the house and we just changed it out.

    3. Back home and Pieter got a topical anesthesia (no injection due to his heart issues) and the hand surgeon went into his upper palm and did something to the 2nd bendable part of his ring finger. That made it stand a lot straighter and he got a splint to wear for twice 2 hours a day. It was NOT Dupuytren's contracture. He has it mildly in his left palm but this was not. So we do hope this procedure will last and let him once again play his organ and accordion... Hugs,
      Mariette

    4. Good to hear and glad Pieter is on the mend. I will say I do enjoy hearing the accordion. I have a French C.D. of accordion music.
My ring finger on my right hand at times would lock. Very strange how it happens at times. I am not sure why it has not happened as much in the last year, but would do so quite often at one time. My mom has the same ring finger that locks and she will pull on it to straighten.
      Hugs Betsy

    5. Oh Betsy, would love to hear that French CD as we lost ours while living and working in Indonesia, when we got robbed. Maybe you could give me the title and info for looking it up... Strange things with age! Pieter's hand is painful after yesterday's procedure and he wore his plint this morning for two hours. Hugs, Mariette

  3. I went to a craft fair/flea market in the summer of 2019 and purchased a milk glass chandelier in pretty rough shape. My husband is supposed to rewire it for me. It is missing it's tear drops, but has the "loops" to attach them. That fall I found some in a craft shop on clearance and purchased all sorts of pretties. I really need to get him working on it this spring. Thank you for the reminder!

    1. Please post a picture when your husband rewires it. Quite a find as I never see them and always in and out of vintage shops. I bet you have some nice crystal to attach to it. I have crystal purchased at vintage shops and some are the long 3 inch ones that reflect the light so pretty. I am not sure what kind of lamp they would go on though. I have seen them on Christmas trees and they shimmer. Betsy

  4. Love your darling project with the grands, Betsy! Your crystals for your chandelier are pretty. And the Irish hankies are quite special. I must try to form topiary from some of our boxwoods. We had to remove a very old English boxwood last year that had blight. Happy Spring to you and yours!

    1. Happy Spring to you Martha Ellen. Do try the topiary. They are tough plants and take a lot of abuse as I have over clipped a couple but they always come back.
