rural with cotton

Near the Pamunkey Indian  Reservation in King William county Virginia is this field of cotton.  These pictures were taken a couple of season back.

I stopped to see and feel it and now understand what my Mom meant when she told me that her fingers bled when she had to pick it when she was young.

  1. Hi Betsy. Nice to meet you. Thanks for visiting and your nice comment. I love the photo of the cotton field. I would love to see one in person sometimes.
It looks like we have some of the same interests as I scrolled through you blog. Love the old barn and split rail fence. Also the church and the old cemetery.
    I am you newest follower.

  2. Wonderful photos! I love the one with the house in the mirror. Great shot. I have a friend whose family picked cotton one summer to put carpeting throughout their home. Her kids said it's the hardest thing they had ever done. But a lesson in what hard work can do.

  3. yes, we have a lot of those in N. Florida. My Mother also told me about what hard work it was when it was picked by hand.
