Home

Staying at home more makes for getting some things done.  I do grocery shop and run errands etc..
Do not understand why I walk into the grocery store and see NO toilet paper.  Why would people hoard this?  It's what they have on their mind I guess, with giving no thought to anyone else.
I buy extra during the year so I won't run out but not in the quantities that some do.. Geesh!!!
Glad to see limits put on some products where I shop.

Woke up Sunday to a dreary day and I mean all day dreary.

I made my way downstairs to the sweet scent of Hyacinths in the window.  Such a pleasant scent too.

Out in the back yard.
Looking to the field is the Forsythia still bloom pretty.  Field is usually green in the summer but not right at the moment.

I have several of these boxwoods that I pulled from under ones in the yard and put in pots. I am training as a topiary here.  Will see how it looks as time goes on.

Seeds I started like tomatoes, zinnias and a few cukes.  I much  rather sow those directly in the ground.

Zinnias are up

Tomato seeds just starting

Plenty of these piles being raked up from one Hemlock in the yard.  We had one trimmed and one removed.  I don't like these trees in the yard.  Near wood line is o.k. but not in yard.   I have seedlings that grow fast in the yard also.  I have put a couple in pots to train or cut into a shape.

Will be trimming this one up today hopefully.

Some items I picked up from our local nursery.  I love shopping there.  The cute little porcelain bath tub for soap.  Two dinner plate dahlias to plant along with pineapple sage and holly hock.  I purchase the sweet smelling hand soap of Verbena scent with olive oil for the kitchen.
The grow bags are long and as they are filled with dirt I will plant maybe some petunias in one.  Each bag has rows of slits to the top for flowers or other plants and a hanger at top to hang on fence post.  I will be planting in these very soon.

I am going to try this again this year to see if I have any luck with these tubers.

Three of my pretty Spring flowers that are blooming right now.  Daffodil, Dewdrop and Forsythia.

Nice peaceful evening it was

Til next time
Betsy

  1. Looking like spring there! I love what you bought at the nursery. The Hyacinths remind me that I planted a few a while back. Wonder where they are?? Probably planted something on top of them. :) Our Sunday was dreary too. Sure looking forward to bright warm sunny days, aren't you?

I love Zinnias. I plant them every year.
It's nice to see plants coming up. Takes our minds off these troubled time.
    Stay well. Thelma.

  3. Good Morning, Yes---the 'virus' is affecting so many of us all over the world... We still have no cases in our county and only a couple near our area in East TN.... BUT--people are being cautious... Schools and events/concerts, etc. are closed/not happening... So far, we are not restricted in our homes. I think when we go shopping on Friday, we'll go REALLY early to beat the crowds... Hopefully, they can re-stock the shelves. People are being so crazy with their hoarding... SAD to me --since some people who need certain items now cannot get them... One of my son's job may be in jeopardy soon since he is a Bar Manager and the bar is in a big mall. As of now, the mall has cut back hours ---but they are still open (even though Mark says there aren't many people at the mall)....

We are all dealing with the 'unknown' here. I feel sorry for those people who work paycheck to paycheck and may not have enough money to pay bills soon... AND --what happens to those adults who still can work, but don't have anyone to watch the children (who are now out of school)?????? I worry that the grandparents (who are the most vulnerable) will now have to watch the grandchildren while the parents still work... CRAZY!

God is in control... I'm trying to stay positive and just continue to help those in need and stay as safe as possible. I won't stay confined to my home until and if I absolutely have to... But when I do go out, I'll take a walk, hike in the woods, ride my bike, ---things like that which are good for me... I'll definitely stay away from big crowds.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. Hi Betsy, the hyacinths are beautiful and so is that gorgeous daffodil. Looks like sweet candy. I am also having a little zinnia envy seeing those little shoots coming up. We had a bit of snow so it is still on the ground and really cold. I am staying home which isn't much new for me as I am usually there anyway. I just don't like going any place any more. The grocery store is a big trip for me, but the kids told us to stay home and they are coming up to do our grocery shopping. They said they plan on coming up every Saturday until this is all over. We had our first person with the virus in town today, so we are told. I'm pretty sure it will get a lot worse before it gets better. Hope you are staying well, my friend..xxoJudy

  5. Beautiful spring pictures! I work outside in the garden center at Lowe's and love looking through everything planning what I want to do!
I have 3 big boxwoods in front of my house so I'm going to see about training one in a pot like you!

That last picture is so relaxing!

    1. These boxwoods are so hardy and I just pull up the little growing ones that come up I guess from a root of the bigger ones. I have them growing several places. I just put them in a pot and fertilize them every now and then. I usually just put some Epsom salt in soil and water. I think working outside in a garden center would be so enjoyable to do. Getting familiar with plants and which ones will do well for a certain area.
I hope you have good luck with the boxwoods and maybe post a picture or two to show how it's coming along.
Glad you liked the last picture and thank you

  6. Dearest Betsy,
Your garden makes me always look back at the years when we were more successful with the abundant use of spent mushroom compost.
Without anything, it is way too poor here in central Georgia and especially the poor water holding capacity! SAD.
But such a joy to see you can grow almost anything. Those Hemlocks have been nearly wiped out at one segment along our Skyline Drive. Such majestic trees when old, sad to see them die for whatever reason.
    Cute soap tub indeed!
We're now into the pollen season... will last for a while longer.
Hugs and stay safe and yes, you're right about those hoarders. Pieter went to gas up for our rounds tomorrow in Atlanta, and he went to Kroger for a few things.
He said it was so crowded and people with loaded shopping carts and CHIPS he said, they buy the craziest things. He shook his head in disbelief.
May God heal the world soon and also let people come to their senses again!

  7. Yes, it is sad that it's difficult to grow there. We are on a slope and soon we will have to build it up I believe a little. If I had it to do over, I would not have bought on sloped property. The drainage is good but I just would prefer flat.
A gentleman who trims and takes out trees was telling me a disease wiped out so many hemlocks and said that I shouldn't cut mine down. Well it cost a fortune to take trees out and right now we will probably just trim them back a lot. They should have never been planted in the back yard where they are by previous owners. The limbs are getting so large. Messy tree.
Our local grocers around here now are pretty stocked and a limit on how much can be purchased. Chips are the last thing we would even think of buying. People seem to have lost it.
You have said the same thing I was thinking. Only faith in God can heal this world. I hope more people find faith in God now.
    Good week end to you
    Betsy
