Ocean View in Virginia

Ocean View Pier is the longest pier in Virginia, in fact it's the largest free-standing pier in North America.

The reason being so long is so visitors can access a wide variety of fish.

A length of 1,700 feet.

Happy Saturday

Did a little shopping at a neat art shop in town nearby. So many cute things and I purchased a few of them.  These adorable Flower girls I think I will fashion a hanger for an ornament while adorning a Christmas gift that is garden related.   I purchased a few other items but can' t post them yet as they are gifts for a few people.

Some lavender gathered from plants in my yard drying and using in flavoring honey, lavender ice cream and jelly.  I also make sachets and keep in my drawer and other areas that can stand to be scented up a litte.

I love Gladiolus.   I staggered the planting so I could have them at intervals instead of all at once.

I really didn't like above arrangement, So I put them in a regular vase

A stop to a local green house center and little shop with some home made items.  This Bug off really does keep the bugs away when I am out in the yard and the grandchildren too.  I make sure I do not run out of this.

Handmade locally is even better

A lavender cutting I rooted a few seasons back. I keep pinching it and the stalk is getting pretty thick and strong.

Moss rose, creeping Jenny and another flower hidden by these.

Boxwood looks good now after trimming them last month. I trimmed them hard but they recovered it seems.

This giant orb is made from a beach ball and cement.  I need to make another this has really held up for over 5 years I think it is.  I need to repaint it.  The next one I will punch holes and place a light inside.

Love how it looks after a nice rain

Granddaughter sent me this picture of a sweet little kangaroo she got to pet and see in Kentucky where Breyerfest is being held this year at the Kentucky horse park.

I stand corrected on this little critter... It's a wallaby and not kangaroo.

Well, that is it for
Anything goes Pink Saturday

Chincoteague in March 2022

Heading out with grand girls, Elvis and a pink stuffed snake to Chincoteague Island in Va.

Located on Virginias Eastern shore.  Second time around with the girls and third time around for Steve and I. Very pleasant and friendly place to go for a getaway.

Not long out in the trip before a nap came on.

πŸ’€πŸ˜΄

March was such a great time to go as it was very pleasant weather and the horses were out where we could get some great pictures and even feed and pet them.  Grand girls loved that.
We stayed at the Hampton Inn on Main Street in Chincoteague.   A place where the doors closed quietly and not that usual loud slam when left to close on their own especially when trying to get a good night's sleep. Icemaker and washer and dryer on every floor.

Getting settled so we can tour around.

Adalyn's bed.

First thing, Genevieve and Adalyn put their clothes in the drawers. This is GeneviΓ¨ve's drawer.

So nice that this room had a balcony as I just feel so closed in without one. Open door with a view to bridge and a nice breeze is refreshing especially in the morning with coffee. The water a pleasant sight with the sea birds.

On our way to Assateague, it's meaning - swiftly moving water is a 37-mile-long stretch of barrier island. The islands wild ponies travel the beach near Chincoteague where we were and Ocean city Maryland.
Ocean city and Chincoteague are both gateways to the island.  South entrance is about a quarter mile from Chincoteague.  There is a north entrance about 8 miles from Ocean city Md.
The beach is beautiful white sand.  We looked for seashells and did some kite flying.
Stopped to take pictures of horses on our short drive to the Island and on way back.
Assateague lighthouse in 2019 we toured with the girls. Next trip we will take the Assateague cruise. 2019 post here→ Lighthouse

To the beach πŸ–

Maybe at most, 10 people were out on the beach shelling like me or just enjoying the fresh air.

Shoes are coming off no matter what the temperature.  Luckily the sun was shining, and the sand was warm.

Leaving the beach and stopping to see and feed the horses.
A nice area to see them up close.

I love horses, never rode one but I love them. Grands want Opa to get one.  We would have to move to more land for that.  Opa used to have a horse and enjoys riding.  I think he thinks about it sometimes.

This gorgeous beauty almost reminds me of Misty of Chincoteague. I purchased the book at a shop on the island for the girls. Written by Marguerite Henry, published in 1947.  Real life story of the Beebe family raising a filly born to a wild horse.
Story begins with the wreck of a Spanish Galleon off the coast of Virginia.  The ponies in hold in the galleon swam to Assateague Island and the story goes on from there.

A picture of the copy of the book I found on Pinterest.  Misty does resemble the horse above.

We were kind of wondering if this one was an albino, very pale and white eyelashes, maybe not.

Long post but we enjoyed this place and these beautiful animals!

Some pics of the 4th

Had to share a few pictures from the parade on the 4th in town.  We had a wonderful time.

Passed some homes dressed out for the day. This home we especially liked

Sitting down with an icee to cool off while taking in the parade.

One of my favorites is the Homemade Apple Pie contest

We had hamburgers for lunch and enjoyed watching the children participate in the sack race.
