The Pyramid - Hollywood cemetary in Richmond Va.

Over 18,000 Confederate soldiers rest here and some 2.000 reinterred here are from Gettysburg.  It is the resting place for 25 Confederate Generals.   J.E.B. Stuart and George Pickett are two of them.   A 90 ft. high granite pyramid was built in 1869 - as a memorial to more than 18.000 enlisted men of the Confederate army buried in the cemetary.     

The Pyramid is said to be Haunted;   there are cold spots.    Some visitors to the Pyramid say that one can walk in and out of the cold spots.  Is also  said they  became sick after visiting.    I have heard that when the moon is full,   moans from civil war dead can be heard.    Not sure where that came from, but I don't think I want to be out there while the moon is full to find out.     Tooooo Scary for me

Cemetary that is, located in Richmond, Va., is one of many  tourist attractions in the area.     Named for the pretty Holly trees on the property.  
 The cemetary was designed in 1847.    Designed like a park,  meandering paths around hills and around beautiful old trees. The Southern boundary is on a cliff overlooking the James River, for some symbolizes the River Jordan.
James Monroe and John Tyler are buried here as well as many of the Civil War.   Jefferson Davis - president of the conferacy along with Varina, his wife, daughter and son.

William Mayo an engineer , first drew the line between Va. and North Carolina, and then in 1737 laid the streets in Richmond is  buried here.

Grave of Phillip Haxall - his mills produced up to 700 barrells of flour a day.  Virginia wheat was durable and could be shipped to California and Europe.

Iron dog watching over little girls grave.

 There are several stories out there,  one being to be protected from being melted down by Union soldiers to make weapons and another that it used to sit in front of a store in Richmond .  A little girl would pass by on occasion and pet it or jump on its back,  when she died of Scarlet fever (that is what I heard) it was placed near her grave to watch over her.

The Cross at Cape Henry

This cross commemorates the site where a wooden cross was placed by English Settlers when they landed in Virginia in 1607.  George Percy one of the early settlers set up a Cross on April 29, 1607, on Chesepiooc Bay and named it Cape Henry.

September 5th, 1781. For over 2 hours, two war fleets exchanged cannon fire.  Admiral deGrasse who was commander of French fleet was sent to support General George Washington. This sea battle which trapped Cornwallis at Yorktown, secured Americas independence.

Fort Story and Lighthouse

Fort Story is located in the city of Va. Beach , Virginia.   The Armys Logistics over the shore training and test site.   Beautiful grassy dunes and pretty beach, I found some nice shells.
    Cape Henry Memorial Cross is here marking where Jamestown settlers first landed.   I will post those pictures on the next post.
The battle of the Virginia Capes monument , a  Francoise de Grasse statue, commemorating  the  sea battle that kept British from reaching Yorktown,  and helped U.S. win our independence.

Old Cape Henry Lighthouse,   the cost to view is $4.00 ..   Nice gift shop, I bought a water globe of the lighthouses and the water globe was only $4.00, reasonable prices in the gift shop.   You go out through the back door and up the steps to the light house.
