Good bye August

Yes, goodbye to August but not Summer just yet.   Autumn does not begin until September 22nd.

I enjoyed fresh peaches from my area found at our local markets.

Peach crisp is a favorite of mine.

The easiest and tastiest dessert.  I left the peels on as I like them, either way really the crisp is good.

about a 1/2 cup each brown sugar and flour. 1/2 cup and just a little more of fast cooking oats, cinnamon, almost a stick of butter because it's how much I like in the crumble.  Vanilla.

I use no exact recipe on this one.  Been making it forever.

Peaches tossed in a  little sugar

I need to make some fresh peach ice cream while they are still here in my area.

I scattered carrot seeds in my planter.  They are short but sweet.

The shadows the way they fall along with cool mornings and evenings tell me that Autumn is nearing. The bees I do not hear buzzing past me. Night sounds of summer have just about stopped.

The only flowers I have still doing well are zinnias and a few petunias and morning glories that I managed to keep watered. The rest of my flowers in pots I am not managing anymore. Time for them to be thrown out.
My tomatoes didn't do well this year.  Thankful for our local growers that I purchase some from.   I will miss having my fried orange or red tomatoes and am no fan of the green ones as they are not flavorful enough for me. I see where some fry them green and then dipping them into some type of sauce. Not for me.  I love them fried in salads and BLT's.

I took a ride to Cold Harbor area in my county. This picture near to the area I was born. The spot where I am standing is where my aunt used to have a home.  Such a beautiful evening.  Memories.

Clay rose and some garden flowers

I purchased this pretty little porcelain vase of flowers few months back.  I always look for these when out thrifting.  I just think they are just so pretty sitting at our bistro table while enjoying a meal.

One flower was broken out. I purchased anyway because it wasn't that noticeable and hard to find these without some sort of little chip in it or a flower missing.

I decided to fashion one from clay I purchased.  Played around with it til I got a rose I liked.  First time doing this, but it worked out o.k.  I painted with some red fingernail polish I had on hand.  Then brushed a coating of craft varnish.

Setting it in the arrangement where one was broken out

I glued in with Weld bond and it will stay there for good.

The below porcelain flowers I took a picture of is setting on our table in a little local restaurant here in town.  I started looking for them after I saw this.

I pick flowers to bring in just about every other day. Zinnias are so plentiful, and I think besides petunias are two of my favorite summer flowers. Zinnias come in all types of colors and variety.
Candy stripe on large leaf.

Volunteer petunias from seed of what was here last summer.
I see that the pink has some striping and white spots.  I am thinking I must have had variegated petunias here, and it is coming out in the ones from their see. . Don't know.

While outside I checked where I planted carrots.  I should have thinned them but I didn't. I really didn't think they would do anything.  They did and they are short but good.  I like the tops minced up in soups.

More zinnias in the den.

We live in this den.

The tray on table is wood but I cut glass and a mirror for the middle and mosaicked it. Grouted in between.

Will be switching out the summer flowers before too long. I am still in summer mode and kinda don't like to rush the seasons.

Getting more trimming done on box woods.  I want to do something different with the front.
Not sure what yet.  I don't want a lot of obstacle courses for husband to cut around but just some more color and interest.

A ride to Gordonsville Va. and a picture my granddaughter took of a shop with pretty flowers in front.

Quick salad for warm days like today.  Local tomatoes, cukes and red onion sliced. On top is Feta cheese, my favorite for salads, well except for blue cheese.  I made a dressing of red wine vinegar, grated garlic, onion powder, honey, olive oil and some pepper.

Happy Saturday everyone.
I am off to take a seat in the sun and read a bit.

bye for now - Betsy
