Chloe

How striking a sight
as we make our way into the Virginia Museum of Fine arts.

Chloe -  a statue of a young girl with eyes closed in the gardens of VMFA.

At the time there was cloud cover.   She looked luminescent in the clouded sky right before we had a light rain.
marble dust makes her glimmer.    she evoked a feeling of calm for me.

Her distorted profile was acheived by compressing the depth.   This info. I got from our local paper Richmond Times dispatch who did an article on her.

She is 24 feet tall and created by Spanish artist -  Jaume Plensa.

as stated above:
 Jaume Plensa
Spanish,  born 1955
Chloe, 2016
Polyester resin, marble dust, stainless steel
Adolph D. and Wilkins C. Williams Fund, 2017.1

You can see here from the back how much she is compressed.   Just didn't expect this as we started viewing her from the side and moving to front around to back.   Wow!
Would like to see her again as the sun sets.

Now onto the Best Cafe for a scone and cup of coffee.

The cafe looks out onto the water feature with these glass rods and I do not know exactly what they are called.  Just call them pretty as they are , especially in the sunlight.

  1. Chloe must have been a wondrous sight in person there and with just the right weather conditions, although I'm sure even a sunny day would show her beauty.

The Best Cafe looks a nice spot for refreshments!

  3. Quite a powerful piece of art. As with Krishna above, there seems a sadness about it.
