Beach Cottage

Charming little beach cottage named "Coral Cottage" is where  we spent a quiet time before the Memorial day crowd on the beach,  get away.   Colonial Beach Va.
A respite for us.
Tweety greets us at the door

A place to take off our shoes - a good idea that I must bring back to my house.

Nice decorations and useful

Even binoculars to see the ocean

A sweet read on the coffee table - A true story of a lady whose illness has her bedridden and a common woodland snail .
Amazing little creatures.

The room had two different sitting areas.

Comfy here for me

games and croquet set in the basket

The kitchen had all we needed for a dinner and cookout

I like how this bucket had mitts, lighter , candles.  A good idea for to keep in mind for gifts

Around six o'clock here  on Wednesday

The next day we went for breakfast and shopping in the rain,  loved it.

to the beach

Took two nights just to get away.  Only about 65 miles from here .  Rented a sweet little cottage.
The next day we heard rain hitting the windows.

Even though it rained -  it's still a day at the beach.

Our World Tuesday

Memorial Day

For us Memorial Day is  honoring  all who served and serve still.     Remembering what the holiday is about first and foremost .

Originally called "Decoration Day"  before WW11.  The day started as an event to honor union soldiers who died during the American civil war.   Inspiration taken from people in the southern states by the way they honored their dead.
After WW1 , it was  extended to honor all men and women who died in any war or military action.

Peonies

One pink rose in with red and white peonies scents the living room

Pink tea rose

Only one iris decided to bloom this year,  might need more lime in the soil.

I have peonies and roses hanging upside down drying,  the red ones dry the best.

Amelia Garden

Little bit of information on Amelia county:
Amelia county is  in Virginia.  Named in honor of Princess Amelia of Great Britain, daughter of King George 2nd.
Parts of Brunswick and Prince George counties created Amelia county in 1735.   General Robert E. Lee and his army during the civil spent the days of April 4 and 5 in 1865 at Amelia courthouse before his surrender to Ulysses S Grant at Appomattox.

Amelia known for it's minerals ,   Amazonite is  found at  Morefield mine in the county.   I have some that I collected from here years ago,  now need to go back.

The largest potato pancake with applesauce - Amelia county fair was home to.  It weighed over 2 and a quarter tons which meant 4 truckloads of potatoes were used.  It was made to raise funds for the German American national scholarship fund in 1986.

About three weeks ago we visited my Mom and took her to this little garden in Amelia Courthouse area.

Entrance to garden

Can see Mom in the distance sitting in the pergola area catching the warm sun

Little nooks for to sit a spell and enjoy the plantings that surround.  Looks to be maybe "coral bells".

I am wondering if the plant is Monks hood

I love the color and the plant but can't have it with the grandchildren around

Mom is enjoying it.

I like the different textures and colors of the plants in this photo,  also the very old log cabin peeking through the bushes

This is one garden we enjoyed seeing this day and Mom was ready after sitting a spell for an afternoon nap....
