Ashland Va. Garden tour- ( pt. one)

Steve and I toured  4 homes and gardens today .  No pictures allowed inside of the homes.  I wish I could have shared some flower arrangements the Ashland garden club designed.   Very nice displays of fruits -  vegetables and flowers.   Some of the arrangements used driftwood in the designs.
The areas today we visited were on the outskirts of town.  Last year the tour took place in the town.
Kenwood, built in 1885 .  A restoration  began  by current owners who purchased the property in 1993.  The Kitchen was the latest project and the original kitchen that was semi detached still remains on the rear of the house.    The style is Queen Anne,a  two story weatherboard with decorative tin panes.   There is four gables and a gingerbread porch.   A center chimney and a steeple.Five large bay windows and three more with stained glass.  Ten rooms with  three full baths.  Yellow pine floors
Stepping into the foyer with many beautiful pictures and painting.   Antique clocks and a collection of silhouettes.   Lovely handcrafted antique model coaches
A walnut and oak main staircase in the home.  The mantles are chestnut.

Lace curtains show so nice in the windows

As we were making our way back to the car,  we were greeted by this gentle beauty.

Tufton -  built in 1970 when property operated as a horse farm.
Our guide for the tour told us that some stone on outside walk way used to be inside the home , it was brought out and replaced with limestone on the interior.    Westmoreland slate was added to the front porch and metal slate shingles were used, this latter info taken from our info sheet on the homes.
in the curve of the black walnut staircase is a baby grande piano in the limestone foyer
Beams in the family room were salvaged from the lucky strike warehouse in Richmond Va.

The bricks painted white and stone added to front elevation,  which gives European flair
this picture is a little blurry , probably from moving the camera to fast as there were many out on this pleasant Saturday to take a look.   live wreath on door.

side view of pool house  - lemonade and cookies were served inside along with a demonstration of flower arranging

walkway around the pool house

There were two of these on either side of entrance to open Veranda with gas fireplace, just a great place to relax.

I like this -  sitting on out side of house next to Veranda
